Freestyle pt.2

Another way to practice your crochet skills is to buy kits. Amazon has many, and I bought a couple including a plant, a flower pot, and coasters. I also bought a book that teaches you how to crochet different foods.  Crochet books ,  Amazon books  and  Kits  are good options for freestyle  crochets.  SimplyCraftsBySam also makes wonderful kits! Many other kits are good too, but if you're looking for easier stuff, search for beginner friendly kits. They will have easier explanations and sometimes guided videos.  Another thing I love is pintrest. There are so many tutorials and options on what to crochet, and personally, one that caught my eye was  scrunchies ! They are so simple to make, and teach you a whole new level of stitches. I've made so many and they all turned out gorgeous.  Another stitch you may need for your freestyle projects are  Double crochet or  Half double crochet .

Freestyle crocheting

Freestyle crocheting is a fun way to express your creativity when you are a little more experienced, but still want to learn. My sister bought a little crochet chick, and I decided to make it hats as my freestyle crocheting project. I made a variety including bucket hats, party hats and winter hats. Here they are! This is pits, my sisters crochet chick. I did not make him, but he was my main inspiration.  This is him in the hats I made.  First is his party hat. This was the first one I created.  This is the beach hat, the second.  This is the winter outfit, and the scarf is only composed of chain stiyches. And this is the other winter hat I made, which is more of a party hat style.  You can create these by starting a magic circle and then crocheting from there depending on the width, shape, and colour you would like.

Tips and Tricks

There are a couple tips and tricks I wish I knew as a beginner. Here they are: Yarn and hooks:  Yarn and hooks vary from project to project. Yarn size does not really matter when crocheting, but hook size does. You can pick what size you like or you can look for the recommended size which is usually on the yarn wrapping.  I recommend the ones with the colourful case 0ver the metal because they are way more comfy. Other gadgets include needles, stitch markers and scissors. You can buy them on Amazon or at Michaels.  Another thing is eyes for your creatures. You can buy them on Amazon and they are called Safety Eyes. They are super easy to install and look super cute! Here is the link to buy them:  https://www.amazon.ca/sk=safety+eurs&crid=2L10AE1KYVBI2&sprefix=safety+%2Caps%2C1058&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 Stitch makers play a huge role in crochet organization, so I highly reccomend that you use them. Crocheting creatures!

Image
Crocheting creatures is how I learned to crochet. My first project was a Woobles kit, and I made an owl. After that, I made many different creatures inculding octopus, bee's and potatoes. There are some new stitches you will need to create these and they are listed below!  These are the ones I made! Andy the owl was my first project, as you can see the stitches are quite wide do to my little experience.  These octopus have little strings attached so I can put them on things like my water bottle and backpack.  Increase (INC) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvD1qrrRX5c Decrease (DEC) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXsiVk52_vA I prefer to do invisible decreases when I crochet, so here is that link too! : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/aKb9Yu1WzvQ Here are the tutorials for the bees, potatoes and jellyfish. Beginners guide!

Crocheting is not a very difficult hobby once you get the hang of it, but there are a couple stitches you need to know. These are the more basic stitches, but other projects require different stitches. Single crochet (Sc) : a single crochet is a simple stitch that you will need to crochet most things. Chain stitch (Ch or Cs) : the simplest crochet stitch you can do.  Magic ring (MR) : A magic ring is the base of most crochet animals and creatures. It is (usually) composed of single crochets.  Make sure to check out the other posts for more advice!
